Andre' and Barley

Andre’ Meacham and Lady “Barley” Blue became members of Rocky Mountain Rescue
Dogs in March of 2001 and have continuously maintained a position on the call-out list
since. Andre’s background growing up along the Wasatch Front has included skiing,
rock climbing, hiking, biking and backpacking; all which have developed and honed skills
essential for search and rescue operations. Barley is a nine year old Chocolate Labrador
Retriever who has only known and loved her job as a search and rescue canine, especially
the avalanche work.“You can run, but you can’t hide.” - Fide Canem

Barb and Kozi

Barb started with Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs, Inc, in June of 1983. She originally got
involved to keep Jingo active during the summer. Jingo was the first avalanche dog at
Alta, and both soon discovered they really liked working year round. Jingo and Barb
searched all over the West, Montana, Idaho, Colorado and Nevada along with Utah.
Jingo also attended the first disaster training school in Bozeman, Montana, when the
SAR community began gearing up for disasters after the Mexico City earthquake. Barb
and Jingo, along with the rest of RMRD teams, were on standby to go to Mexico City.
Barb lost Jingo to cancer in 1991.
Marley was her second dog, she was supposed to learn from Jingo, but unfortunately,
Jingo passed over the Rainbow Bridge a month prior to Marley’s arrival. Marley was totally
different from Jingo and much more difficult to train. She was hyper active and very
independent so everyone really helped train her. Barb wasn’t sure she was going to be a
good search dog, but Marley proved her by having a find to her credit before she was retired
at 5 ½ years of age due to eye problems.
After Marley retired, Barb worked her next dog Bailey for two years, until Kozi, the runt of
Bailey’s second litter arrived. Kozi got Momma’s height and length and Dad’s bigger bone
build and is now one hundred pounds of snuggler! Kozi has been the best dog, a great
combination of both Jingo’s and Marley’s qualities. Lots more energy than Jingo, but
much more responsive to humans than Marley was. Kozi also trained for the FEMA disaster
team and missed going to New York City in September 2001 by a short straw! Kozi
has responded to many searches in her career with 2 finds to her credit and has given
her all in everyone. Kozi’s last big search was at 11 years of age in Canyonlands National
Park and for an 11 year old dog, she worked two days and covered 9 miles. Kozi
officially retired at the end of October 2008 from active field work but still does demos
and loves being around kids and adults.

Bob and Murray

Bob is a potential candidate for the Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs who attended his first meeting in March 2010 to see what the RMRD was all about.   His K-9 pal, Murray is a 2yr old Golden Retriever who loves everything that pertains to the great outdoors.
Bob currently is employed at ATK Launch Systems as one of their Industrial/Scientific Photographers at the plant in Northern Utah.  His hobbies include, skiing (volunteers at Deer Valley Resort), hiking (volunteers as a Trail Patrol Member on Antelope Island), is a HAM radio operator (W8REL), and also loves going on sports car trips when time permits.  Murray's hobbies include, long walks, finding items in the snow, playing in the water, and being with his owners.  Bob and Murray live with Carole,  Bob's wife,  who is an instructor at Weber State Univ. and also longs to get another Golden for Murray.  All three live near the campus in Ogden.

Bret and Baer

Bret is currently a potential candidate for the Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs and has been involved since January 2010.  His K-9 partner Baer is a 1.5 year old, red and black, male German Shepherd.  At this time they are both working on certifications to become a candidate with the team.  Bret is a junior at Weber State University working on his Associates in Chemistry and Bachelors in Criminalistics.  Bret is an avid baseball player and enjoys any activity that involves the outdoors.

Cole and Luca

Cole is 27 years old, and the youngest member of Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs. His partner
Luca is a 4 year old black and tan German Shepherd who is in Cole’s opinion the greatest German
Shepherd ever. If you don’t believe Cole, ask Luca and he’ll tell you himself. Cole joined
Rocky Mountain Rescue dogs in 2007, and he and Luca are one of the newest certified teams.
Cole is an EMT I with advanced cardiac and pediatric certifications. He has been in EMS since
2001, and was involved in the Trolley Square incident as one of the first entering medical teams.
Cole holds a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish, is bilingual in English and Spanish, and
loves the outdoors. He is a Jeep aficionado who loves rock climbing and repelling. Cole thrives on
humor and jokes and believes laughter is always the best medicine. “Coffee is a staple in life and
should not be taken lightly.”

Darrick and Wahsatch

Darrick joined Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs in 2007, and spent the first year as a professional
scent article for all the working dogs to find.
Currently, Darrick is an associate member and is currently working on becoming a certified handler
with his 3 year old Golden Retriever, Wahsatch. Darrick works as an engineer at ATK in Northern Utah,
and truly is a rocket scientist at heart.
Darrick’s current responsibilities include aiding in Incident Command responsibilities,
over-seeing real-time tracking capabilities for the group during searches as well as analyzing track
log data from handlers returning from the field. He is also one of our “tech gurus” with working
knowledge of many TOPO software programs such as Alltopo, Garmin Mapsource and Basecamp,
Terrain Navigator and Topo USA.

Dee and Pastis

Dee and Pastis joined RMRD in March 2006 and became members in January 2007. Pastis started when she was just a puppy and loves everything about search work. If she didn’t search, Dee would be doing marathon training to keep her busy. She excels at agility, article searching, building searching and wilderness. Her mode of working is to do figure eights out in front of Dee and out to the sides about 100 yards. She chooses the track or air that she thinks is the most direct. If she finds the track while doing a grid search then she takes off on the track or if she is tracking to leave the track to go straight to the victim or jumps to a hotter section of track. Dee used to have a difficult time determining her search strategy, but always trusts her and allows her to search her way. Dee and Pastis are certified as a Level III Rocky Mountain Rescue Dog team as well as Tactical Tracking Teams, Level II Area Searching and Level III Tracking with NASAR. Dee is fortunate to be self-employed with many clients who support his need to leave at a moment’s notice to attend a search.

Frank and Haley

Frank is a certified project management professional working for a software company. He has been involved with RMRD since June of 2009. His search partner is Haley, a Blue Heeler, with high energy and enthusiasm for finding people. have trained mostly in HRD (cadaver), tracking and wilderness.

They are certified in the following areas: NASAR Sartech II, NASAR Canine Sartech II,
Area Search Dog Non-Discriminating, NASAR Canine Sartech III Trailing Search Dog,

Sage. John and Sage have been training primarily for Area and Tracking searches,
as well as some cadaver training.

Kacy and Uintah

Kacy and Uintah joined Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs in 2006 and were just recently
certified as a Level II team. Uintah is a 4 year old Golden Retriever who always lives up
to her name. Uintah absolutely loves people, especially kids. There is no greater reward
for her than to come to the end of a trail and find someone waiting there for her. Her specialty
is wilderness and article searches, but she also enjoys water recovery, disaster
searches, building searches, avalanche, and tracking. In October 2009, Uintah located a missing person in West Wendover,
aiding the West Wendover Police Department and the Elko County Sheriff's Office.
She is currently working on her Level III certification. Kacy holds a Masters Degree in Forensic Computer Investigations
from the University of New Haven, and manages PetsFirst! Wellness Center in Brigham
City, Utah.

Laura and Charlie

Charlie, a 2 year old chocolate lab mix, may be a little guy, but he makes up for it in charm, heart, and spunk (boy can he jump)! Charlie's past can be traced back to a Utah animal shelter, where dogs are usually given 30 days to be adopted or... well you can guess. No More Homeless Pets adopted him into their program where he went through several foster homes before he was adopted by Laura shortly after she moved to SLC from Texas, where Laura recently received her Masters of Art degree in Biomedical Communication. Laura is a medical illustrator and graphic designer for Amirsys, Inc., a radiology publishing and imaging company. Charlie and Laura became involved in the Rocky Mountain Rescue dogs in January 2010, and just began their training.

Marie and Guinness

Marie became a certified K9 SAR handler in 2006 with her first dog Kahlua a young Catahoula Leopard Dog.
In 2008 she found her new partner Guinness, a male Bloodhound-Labrador from Mississippi, who she started training as an 8 week old puppy. From the start it was obvious that Guinness was a natural tracker and a great dog. They were just certified as a level III team with Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs. Marie is also certified with National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) as a SARTECH II and Guinness has a NASAR Canine Sartech II area certification.
Summer of 2009 Marie and Guinness completed the TTT (Tactical Tracker Teams) and Georgia K9 Academy's 40 hour Trailing Course and passed their level I certification.
Marie and Guinness train 2-4 times a week, mostly tracks that have aged a couple of days. They train trailing in highly contaminated areas to prepare for any situations where a great tracking dog can make a difference.
It is an honor to be called out to help find a missing person.

Synethia and Lacie

Rutger was Cindy's first dog, he retired as a Guide Dog for the Blind after five years of service, he then served as a Search dog for four years with Tooele County and Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue, now he serves as a Healing Paws Dog for Tooele County Childrens Justice Center. Wendy and Tyke

Wendy and Tyke have been training as a team for more than a year. She has been a candidate for RMRD for a few months and is working with Tyke to be certified as a Level II team. They are currently focused on wilderness search. Tyke is a high-energy yellow lab with an enthusiasm and love for searching. Wendy is a mechanical engineering student at BYU and is working to receive her Bachelor's degree.
